Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? X is what you would call 'short' and almost 'boyish', standing at a height of 5'2 - 5'4, X isn't exactly what you would think of when you think of the 'pinnacle of manliness'. Still, he at least looks like he has some definition on him, though it's only noticeable when he's out of his armor.
2. How old is he? On appearance he looks about 19-20, but depending on what game he's in, it varies on his *actual* age. Either way, X isn't a very old Android / Reploid.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? X is ramrod straight at all times, unless he's in a thinking position (at which he may sit down and slouch for a while). He's not intimidating, but man does he come off as eager. And he's polite, which is a plus.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? He's pretty healthy. X is a Reploid, so his health is sort of relative, but he isn't prone to keeling over or breaking down easily. He's immune to viruses, though that doesn't stop him from taking some serious care of himself.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? I wouldn't call X 'graceful', but I wouldn't call him entirely 'tense', either. On duty he can act tense, though, depending on the situation.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? X himself doesn't notice his appearance, but X is most certainly a handsome reploid. Not in the same adonis sense as Zero, but more in that 'beautiful young man who has a pure heart' sort of handsome. His appearance is probably popular amongst younger girls, though if they lavish him with attention, X doesn't notice.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? He's Caucasian and unscarred.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. With his helmet off, X has this sort of messy mop of dark brown hair, which despite X's own neatness tendencies, never seems to stay in one place and makes him look like he has bedhead all the time (which is why on-duty, he rarely takes the helmet off). It's soft and silky, though, as despite his lack of vanity, X still likes to make himself clean and presentable at all times.
9. What color are his eyes? His eyes are a very vibrant green.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Other than his trademark blue armor and his buster, no.
11. What are his chief tension centers? Probably his shoulders, I would think.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? X is practical with a capital "P". He dresses well, but he doesn't wear anything that would particularly stand out, rather opting for white or blue button-downs and nice jeans when he's off duty to making an attempt to wear human formal clothes for formal events (that said, he does have an adorable pair of blue pajamas that he likes to wear when he's going to bed in his dorm). He tends to dress in either blues, whites, or subdued colors; X isn't very flashy.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? I'd like to think so, yes. X's armor is form-fitting and is always a nice comfort, seeing as he was sealed in them, and just sort of got used to the idea of wearing it. In Smash, he especially enjoys wearing civvy clothes, since it means he can bond more with the other students. In Damned, well...as airy and comfortable as the institute clothes are, X really would just like his armor back, plz and kthx. In Portes, he has to wear his 'uniform' during the day and opts to wear his armor at night, so he doesn't have much of a clothing variety there, either.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
General Headcanon: Oh, God no. He wears his armor when he works, and his civvy clothes are when he's off-duty. This isn't just to distinguish himself from the other working hunters, but also so he can blend in when he goes out to his favorite library or steals away into the Hunter HQ Documents Room again.
Smash: He generally wears civvy clothes around campus, whether it's his uniform or casualwear. He only wears his armor when he's training, or if a situation arises where he absolutely needs it.
Damned: He wears the Institute clothes all the time. Period.
Portes: He only wears the work uniform and his armor. That's it.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? X is a briefs man, though he does like the way boxers feel against his skin.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? X's voice is very mellow and mid-tone, easy to listen to but not particularly 'manly' or anything. Unless he yells -- then he's got the manliest robo-scream to match manly robo-screams.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? X talks easily, though his tone is generally softer than others (unless he's excited, then it raises in volume). When he's older this grows to a consistent even pitch, but as X is rather young he's got that oscillating energy of youth.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? I can imagine X having a sort of neutral American accent; something probably from the mid-west if anything specific.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? He can speak just about any language on earth with amazing fluency. His primary language though is English.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Depending on where he is, his language changes.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? X thinks about *EVERYTHING*, but he can deliver a good impromptu speech now and again. But it tends to be sort of preachy and pretentious so this can be hit or miss depending on who he talks to. Still, he does talk with energy.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? He's pretty straightforward and blunt, but he's not inarticulate by any means. He'll use high-level language if applicable, and as he enjoys reading, has one hell of a huge vocabulary.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? X is actually more book-smart, I'd like to think. Not that he doesn't have street-smarts (he'd have a good case of 'dead' if that were the case), but his book smarts outweigh them by a bit, especially considering that he spent a lot of time as a research assistant before joining the hunters. I'm pretty sure the dude still reads a lot outside of work.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? Depends, as he does both. He's capable of thinking on his feet in a battle, but sometimes he does deliberate in social situations or debates.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? X is very logical, though he's also the most idealistic robot you ever did meet. Ideals tend to outweigh logic in some situations, leading X to occasionally be quite rash and a bit of a loose cannon (usually this involves either saving innocents, or Zero being a moron).
4. What kind of education has the character had? He probably came with basic High-School education, but considering X's contemplative nature and lust for knowledge, it's perfectly reasonable that he read enough books to equal a college graduate degree (most likely in engineering or some other sciencey topic).
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? While X is a combat model, and is skilled in fighting and all that fun stuff because of that, his outside interests tend to lean towards the more 'contemplative' and 'academic' end of things, especially in his reading material. He also likes to read about land chasers and motorcycles.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? I actually see X as a mixture of both. He's not exactly going to hurrgblah all of his feelings to everyone he meets, and he does love his private time to read, contemplate, etc...but he's expressive and friendly, and makes bonds with others easily.
Now whether they're close bonds...well...that's the tricky part. X isn't exactly standoffish, but his inner circle of his closest confidantes is very, VERY small. He's more likely to listen to your problems than have you listen to his, though because his feelings are so raw and pure it's plain as day when there's something wrong, even if he doesn't talk about it.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? X is...X is emotional. Usually he's warm and calm, though he can also get into rages like you wouldn't believe, especially if something happened to those dearest to him. He can laugh and joke with the rest of them (and is often teased for being 'childish' and can even be the butt of his friends' jokes), but he also has his moments of emo and melancholy, especially in Smash when he's still trying to figure out what the hell he's going to do with his life, and in Damned because...well. Blaming himself for Zero's death. In Portes, he's less angry with himself about Zero's death, but still has a guilt complex a mile wide, and hates getting into confrontations that end in fighting.
Still, he tries to 'cheer the hell up'.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? X is friendly and pleasant enough, and is extremely trusting (he takes a lot at face value), and he most definitely can make friends easily.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? When he's older, X acts. When he's younger, X reacts. That's not to say that he doesn't do both things, but he reacts more due to his not wanting to fight rather than any sort of passivity on his part.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight. Pacifist he may be, but coward X is not.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? X likes jokes, and is particularly fond of puns (not that his friends share this sentiment), though gallows and bathroom humor aren't really too much of his thing. If the pranks don't hurt anyone, then he doesn't mind them (though sometimes he does have to draw the line).
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? Noooope. He has issues, but nothing medical.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? Seeing as X is rather young, I'd have to say it boils down to a few things: Seeing his first Maverick Attack, defeating his first Maverick, and seeing Zero die to save his life. X doesn't like violence, and will avoid it at all costs, so having to kill for the first time probably had a huge impact on his psyche, forcing him to 'grow up' and understand that he is in a war. People die. Not everyone can be saved. Zero's death made him realize the things in life that were truly important (friends, family), and gave him more drive to end this war as fast as possible. X understands the true pain of loss, and he'll fight until his last breath if it means that nobody else will have to feel that way ever again.
And seeing his first Maverick attack...well. It's one thing to hear about the Maverick Virus at work, but to *see* innocents getting hurt because of something that he essentially considers his fault is something else entirely. This might have been the push to shove him into the Hunters (since I imagine he saw his first attack before he was even a hunter) during that contemplative "WHAT DO I DO" phase that landed him into Smash in the first place.
14. What does he fear? Going Maverick, losing Zero, helplessness. He knows he can't go Mav, but the thought of doing so and hurting innocents really scares the bejeezus out of him. Losing Zero is a given; his feelings for Zero are complex and deep, never fitting in any one single category and yet still encompassing them all. And of course, there's being unable to help or save people. X is a hero by nature; being unable to do what he always does best is sheer torture for him.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? He wants peace and love between all humans and Reploids, with a world that doesn't know violence or war. X also wouldn't mind having a family of some kind.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
This depends on what part of canon he's in, I think.
Pre-canon: Short of him blaming himself for the existence of Mavericks, X doesn't particularly have any skeletons in his closet.
Post-X2: That Abel City's destruction is his fault. That Zero's initial death is his fault. That Sigma not dying at Abel City is his fault. ...Mostly this just has to do with his extensive, deep guilt that sits in his core like a thick black tar.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Dr. Light's sorta dead, so we're SOL on that one. Still, X does wish he knew his creator and siblings better.
That said, I'd imagine that X considers Dr. Cain his father to a degree, since he not only found him, but taught him about the world and looked after him much like a real parent. His feelings for Dr. Light are complicated and daddy-issues-esque, but his feelings for Dr. Cain are much like how a son would feel to a beloved foster father or grandfather. He owes him for so much, and he still doesn't know how to repay him for it.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? He has several! Too bad he never meets them. Still, Zero is in the 'brother' category, so I guess that counts.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? Nope.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Dr. Cain and Zero. At least, if we're talking post-MMX2!X and not Pre-Canon X, who only has Dr. Cain to call his family. Now, I'm going to go on a limb and say that yes, while I ship Zero/X pretty hard, if ever a ship was to be had, it would be in the beginning, awkward "I feel for him differently than I feel for anyone else. Why is that?" period of things.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Zero. X not only trained under him at Maverick HQ, but he probably ran into him several times before he even became a hunter, probably in passing, or when Zero stopped by Dr. Cain's lab for some reason or another. Even before X's joining the Hunters, I have a feeling they were on pretty friendly terms.
6. Does he have other close friends? Considering this is Pre-Canon/ Post-MMX2!X, then no. Zero's pretty much all he has, friends-wise. Pre-Canon X doesn't even have that, since he and Zero aren't really close by this point.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
I'd say he makes friends pretty easily, though making friends and having them join his ultra-close inner circle is something else entirely. He's friendly, open, and enjoys talking with others. MMX2!X has plenty of friendly, professional relationships at Hunter HQ that he sometimes joins for drinks or whatever when he's off-duty, and Pre-Canon!X has already made some friends out of his classmates at Smash, so there you have it.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? They're one and the same to X...that is, if you have joined his ultra-close inner circle. If you've joined that ultra-close inner circle of friends, then you're family. That said, he still holds his friends in high regard and does whatever he can for both his family and friends; he's not going to ditch one for the other or vice-versa (unless someone was in extreme peril, and he'd hope the people he was with would understand. He's got hero-things to do!).
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? He's single, though X probably wouldn't mind having that sort of connection with another person, if things were peaceful. But he's not going to push for it, and doesn't mind being a single robo-bachelor hanging out with his best friend all the time and riding really cool motorbikes and fighting for peace.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? No. I tend to interpret X as having romantic feelings for Zero, but these are undefined, raw, and something that X can't understand. These are easily brushed in the 'well, he's my ultra close friend, of course I'm going to feel for him a little differently' folder, the poor thing.
Even if he does realize what it is, he's not going to open up about it unless confronted, since he doesn't want to wreck his friendship (and this sort of goes with anyone that he's got a crush on).
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? See above. And maybe he's had some attraction to various humans he's met over the years...though he never acted on any of these for various reasons.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? Honestly, it's hard to say. A few years ago, I would have had a long description of his ideal 'type', but really, it's up in the air and anyone's game. He wants someone who can be his equal, and who will stand by him in every single way. I suppose by that token, it would be difficult for him to be with someone who's particularly passive, or doesn't have a sense of justice...
But even then, I can see him going for another type entirely -- even someone that probably wouldn't be too good for him. See, I imagine that X kinda has this thing for doomed romances for some reason -- maybe it's just because the rest of his life shits on him, why not his love life? -- and because of his whole 'humans and Reploids must get along' thing, it wouldn't shock me if X had a sort of...peculiar attraction to humans. It's probably not conscious to him, but he's probably seen a human as more attractive than they would be, simply in virtue of being human. If he ever found out this preference, he'd never voice it.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? He doesn't have any, but X wouldn't mind adopting children when the war's over. He's naturally good with kids as it is (he loves children of all kinds), but having his own will probably lighten him up a bit. That said, he'd be a very, VERY doting father, and overprotective to boot, though he does mean well.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Sigma. Vile. The entire villains' roster of the MMX series. Seriously, draw a straw -- if they're an X villain, they most definitely want him dead.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? X is a straight up 3. He doesn't care whether or not you're male or female -- he loves for the heart and mind, not for the body.
Though I'm going to make an addendum here, on another sort of orientation: X also doesn't care whether you're Reploid or Human. People are people to him, regardless of race, gender, or species, and it's the soul that matters, not necessarily whether you're organic or not.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? He can live without it, as he himself is a virgin and a prude on most fronts. X is a bit of a romantic, but sex and romance to him aren't exactly mutually exclusive (He can be perfectly fine loving someone and NOT having sex, so long as he can 'connect' with them in some way, shape, or form).
That said, if he was in a romantic (which was also sexual) relationship with another person, he'd probably like the closeness and connection so much that he'd become insatiable at first, until he realized that it wasn't going to suddenly go away. Then every now and again would be perfectly fine with him.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? (NSFW)
I'm just going to make this a list, okay? Make it easy on me (and those reading):
Turn-offs: (heavy) bondage, any form of cruelty, any sort of beating. X doesn't mind doing things a little rough if his partner wants, but he doesn't want to do anything that brings pain to another person, because he's not a violent guy. If he loved the person enough, then he'd try to oblige the more...intense stuff, but he'd be uncomfortable, feel weird, and probably feel really really guilty afterwards, constantly asking his partner if they were okay. Also, over-dominance? Yeah, fuck that. He doesn't mind being topped by someone (Actually, he prefers being in a more submissive position), but the second they start treating him like a slave he's going to have some serious issues, and possibly even fight back (leading to battles for dominance).
Turn-ons: Subtle seduction of any kind. Cheesy romantic dates. He likes things slow and sensual, mostly. That kind of thing where he likes to really feel a connection with his partner, body and soul and all that. He's the sort of guy who wouldn't mind sitting on a bench for hours, looking at a sunset and talking about nothing so long as he could be with the one he loves most.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? I count X as a Libra(since he was put in his pod in late September, I consider that his 'birth' date), though he doesn't exactly fit the type well. While he is emotional and is a romantic, he's not particularly indecisive, and not really one for 'pretty' things.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? X is philosophical, and I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up believing in some sort of deity; but he's not particularly religious and probably wouldn't go to a Church or anything.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? Oh, God does he. It was implemented through the sort of ethics testing that he received while in his pod, and he WILL. NOT. COMPROMISE. EVER. Compromising his ethics is the same as not having any.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? He's not intolerant, but he does get frustrated if people belittle him because of his own differing beliefs. He's an idealist, so this sort of thing happens a lot.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? X is pretty open about things, though he has no tolerance of evil, in any form. So I guess that counts as prejudice? He'll still try to convince Mavericks to 'join the light side', so he does have more hope than others.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? Being a Hunter, he's pretty financially stable. X isn't poor or anything, but he also isn't rich, either. He's happy being where he is and he never has to worry about money (though he does often give to charity).
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? X is a hero. Plain and simple, though he doesn't really see himself as one. He'll do what he can, but to call himself that would be plain arrogant.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? He lives in a pad by himself in Hunter HQ. It's not exactly lavish, but it's got enough things where he can really call it his own, decorated almost entirely in shades of blue. It's always neat and tidy, with everything in its place (unless he's invited someone over for...*ahem* shenanegans, and then sometimes it can be a little messy), and he always makes sure to have a couch available in case someone (pretty much Zero) needs a place to crash after a tough mission. Pretty much, Zero is open to his room even when X isn't in it, giving him his room's password and access to his bed and facilities (X spent good money on a comfortable Reploid Recharge bed for that room, because the typical cots and pods that are in typical Hunter Rooms are uncomfortable as fuck).
Though he has fallen asleep in the Records Room on occasion, as well as on Zero's ultra-comfortable couch.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Books, mostly. Books, music, and the occasional game he can download and play on his downtime. He also spends money on maintaining and souping up his Land Chaser (don't give him that look! It's important to have a fast, well-handled 'Chaser for when he can't teleport to the scene of a crime). As much as he doesn't talk about it to most people, he has a weakness for figurines, and will sometimes build garage kits in his off-time.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? He's a Maverick Hunter, and one of the best (even if he is just B-rank). X does it because he has to -- he'd much rather do something else with his life rather than fight all the time. But as it stands, he has a dream, and he'll do all he can to make it come true.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? Canon never really says, though I like to consider X one for reading, discussion, and even art appreciation, enjoying the more 'intellectual pursuits' outside of training and doing his Hunter Work. He has stacks of scientific journals, art photobooks, and collections of literature on shelves in his dorm, intermingled with a few philosophy books that he likes.
Though speaking of Philosophy, I'd imagine that one of his favorite passages was the parable of "The Cave", which Plato spoke of. X doesn't quite interpret it in the way that Plato does, though; he doesn't care about spreading his 'greater wisdom' or whatever, but he does believe that those who pursue violent paths are 'looking at shadows' because they're not seeing the other way (the 'right way', which is where everyone's friends and happy together). Their prejudices and cruelties to others are these 'shadows', and he and others like him have the responsibility to get these people out of their caves and show them the reality of a better, brighter world. (What's interesting is that I see Copy X reading X's interpretation of this parable and possibly getting the way-wrong idea from it)
In terms of art? I imagine him more of a renaissance-style guy. The religious imagery and the bright, bold colors would probably speak to him and his passionate heart, with some expressionism sprinkled in there with some Monet and Van Gogh. When he gets older, his taste will probably become more muted, with softer colors and even some abstract stuff thrown in there.
He also enjoys riding his Land Chaser to get his mind off things when the books aren't helping him (as demonstrated in Maverick Hunter X's ending). He doesn't go very fast and minds the speed limit (he's play-it-safe to the core; but then again, 'chasers can be dangerous and hurt innocent people if one isn't careful), but he loves the feeling of freedom that he receives just riding his 'chaser in the dead of night, it being just him and the road. He can only do this when Hunting is at a lull, but he enjoys his offtime with the relish of an extremely enthusiastic lover, happy to oblige and never taking for granted.
Sometimes he'll mix the two together, though; taking his land-chaser to a public park or a forest area where he can sit and read by a flowerbed or by a stream. Somewhere peaceful where he won't be bothered and is as far away from the bustle of the world as he can be.
I also headcanon him to be a little bit of an animal lover, and having a very, VERY soft spot for babies of all kinds (whether human or animal).
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? As I've said in the "Reploid Explanation" entry, X does enjoy eating human food. He doesn't have to, but it's at least a more delicious alternative than to what Reploids normally eat. If I had to go into anything specific...I'd think everything ranging from fruit teas to soda to ramen noodles to cheeseburgers. He's not really a picky eater, and will try anything once. Yes, even Durian (that was probably one of the worst mistakes he ever made).
